Today a short stop on an area dominated by rice fields just outside the town of Vila Franca de Xira revealed to be very fruitful. One Alpine Swift was spotted in a large group of Swifts + Pallid Swifts. One Purple Heron and several Glossy Ibis were seen flying up close, while small groups of Spoonbills, White Storks and Cattle Egrets were seen feeding a little further away. Other species seen or heard singing included Zitting Cisticola, Crested Lark, Skylark, Short-toed Lark, Spotless Starling, Reed Warbler and Cetti´s Warbler. But the highlight was an early group of Lapwings (10 indiv.) that rested in one of the rice paddies alongside two Gull-billed Terns.

Good observations!
